But this week, the Snowden leaks have forced them to make some major adjustments. A new program by the National Security Agency, called "Honeypot," is designed to allow the agency to dig into target computers and monitor communications for keywords and other pieces of intelligence that could help crack cyber-attacks. The program is designed to show organizations exactly how their systems and networks are being attacked, said Jeffrey Carr, CEO of Kaspersky Lab, one of the world's leading software security companies. It would allow the agency to analyze those attacks, he said, in a much broader way. "We are very concerned about capabilities that go beyond narrow traditional cyber espionage," said Mr. Carr, whose company supports efforts to clamp down on such practices. "If we don't see how this type of thing is used, then we won't know how to counter it. "We are witnessing the creation of a new intelligence tool," he said. The revelation of the new program came in an interview that Edward Snowden conducted with a German television station in early August. The Russian newspaper, Der Spiegel, reported that program on Thursday. The be359ba680
